Inside November’s Goodie Letter Club: A Seat at the Table

Goodie Letter Club November's Letter

Goodie Letter Club is a monthly snail-mail experience from Goodie Living for anyone who loves art, reflection, and beautiful things delivered to their home. November’s theme is hosting. It brings together a personal letter, a Thanksgiving reflection, the paintings of Winslow Homer, a warm brown and orange color story, and a few small things to bring to your table, all designed to be read, kept, shared, and enjoyed offline.

Inside the November Letter

Some months are so full they need two stamps, and November is one of them. If this sounds like your kind of mail, sign up here and I’ll add your name to the list.

The Theme: Hosting

Hosting is less about the perfect table and more about the people around it. Some of the best gatherings are improvised, and some are planned down to the name cards. Both can make someone feel they belong.

This month’s letter sets two tables side by side: a first Thanksgiving in a borrowed Brooklyn apartment, with sides mostly from cans, and a different dinner so carefully planned you almost couldn’t tell. From there it asks a simple question before the holidays fill our calendars: who would you want at your table, friends or family, real or imagined, and why them?

Featured Artist: Winslow Homer

Winslow Homer (1836–1910) is one of America’s most beloved painters. He started out as a magazine illustrator, sketching scenes of the Civil War for Harper’s Weekly, and later became known for paintings of country life and the sea.

Homer felt like the perfect artist for November. His paintings are full of golden fields, red schoolhouses, harvest light, and quiet figures who look like they’re about to head home for supper. The prints in this month’s envelope bring a few of those scenes to your mailbox.

The 5″x7″ print this month is:

Autumn
Winslow Homer
1877

A young woman in a dark dress stands among autumn leaves, calm and a little wistful. It’s a painting about the turn of the season, and it looks beautiful on a fall table or propped on a shelf by your desk.

The Color Story: Brown and Orange

November’s palette is rust, pumpkin, cinnamon, and walnut. These are the colors of fallen leaves, warm bread, and candlelight on a long table. You’ll find them throughout the envelope and all over Homer’s harvest scenes. Try borrowing them for your own gathering, with a few orange candles, brown kraft place cards, or a bowl of clementines in the middle of the table.

New This Month: The Art Talk Series

I’ve launched a new art talk series. Each talk is about a minute long and goes with that month’s letter, so you can hear a little more about the artist and the paintings in your envelope. Think of it as a quick docent tour you can watch with your morning coffee. Check out the Homer Art Talk.

Why Snail Mail?

A single greeting card at the store costs about $6. For $12 a month, Goodie Letter Club sends you a personal letter, a little art history, and a whole collection of postcards and blank notecards. You can send them for birthdays, thank-yous, and thinking-of-you notes all year.

But the real reason is how it feels. A hand-addressed envelope with no bills or junk inside is a small gift to yourself, and a few minutes away from a screen.

Conclusion

Goodie Letter Club is meant to be more than something you open once and set aside. It’s a small monthly ritual, part art lesson, part personal letter, part surprise, created to help you slow down, discover something new, and connect with the people around you.

It also makes a thoughtful holiday gift. The 3-month gift subscription comes with a “Welcome to the Club” postcard with your name on it, so your friend knows who’s thinking of them.

If that sounds like your kind of mail, November sign-ups are open now until Nov 15. I’d love to send you a letter.
